Pros & Cons

  • The people and the culture! SW is very supportive and provides an enjoyable working environment that makes me want to come into the office, but also they support working from home and flexible hours.
  • The best thing about working at SW has been the amazing opportunities I have been provided as well as the broad range of work that I have been able to do. I have been exposed to much more than I could have expected and find my work quite interesting.
  • The culture and work environment provided at SW is second to none. Holding social, networking, and professional development events on the regular provided me the opportunity to learn and gain access to different knowledge areas within the business.
  • The best thing about working at this company is the amazing amount go support that we receive. Upon starting with the company, I found the graduate program highly informative, and very nurturing. Day-to-day, the team that I work with have gone above and beyond to help me feel welcome and understand my work.
  • SW has a very supportive and collaborative work culture. As a grad, I was well looked after. Beyond work, SW has a welcoming induction and provides useful training, both internal and external, plus social events.

  • I haven't experienced anything negative at my company.
  • I'm not sure there is something that I would class as being "the worst". I am not dissatisfied with any area of working for the company.

Career Prospects
SW provides many promotion opportunities and I have seen that they much prefer to promote from within the firm rather than hire from the outside. They are fully supportive of the graduate's career development and I have heard from managers and seniors that promotions are common.

SW participates in a number of initiatives such as the Vinnies CEO sleepout, November, RUOK day. I recently participated in Run Melbourne to help raise funds for Premature babies along with other employees from SW

Culture

Culture
In the office, people are very social and there are many opportunities to socialise. There's the netball/futsal team, and a coffee roulette system where we get matched with a random person to have a coffee with. After hours, the social committee often puts on events (e.g. annual ball, trivia night). We also have end of month drinks to mingle with the firm and celebrate the end of the month. In the office, I find the culture amazing. I often talk to a lot of people across teams and divisions that I don't work with closely and am comfortable doing so. Everyone is friendly and genuine. I work in a team every day, therefore teamwork and cooperation is quite prevalent. I really enjoy this about the firm. After office hours, the culture is still amazing. We have monthly drinks and socialise often. We also have many fun events that we are invited to, to socialise within the firm.

Diversity
8.4
Diversity
SW has a wide diversity of cultures, ethnic minorities and LGBT staff. The firm has very high employee retention and prefers to promote from within to fill positions whenever possible. I have seen several employees supported through maternity leave with clear opportunity to return. SW attracts applicants from less privileged backgrounds by consistently showing that the organisation is committed to inclusion and wants to hire applicants from less privileged backgrounds.

I am very satisfied with the type of work that I am doing and the experience that I have gained so far. I find that the work that I have been involved with is interesting and important.

Management

Management
My managers are very accessible and easy to talk to. They are good mentors and are often updating me on my progress and how I am going in my role. In the first 6 months, performance reviews are every second month which is a nice structure, but I receive informal feedback a lot more regularly in between those.

Office Work Environment
The office is newly renovated, and offers a diverse range of hot desks, offices and collaborative spaces. It is a really impressive place to work. The dress code in the office is Business casual, when out at clients it is expected to be corporate attire.

Recruitment
The interview process was very smooth and one of the best I experienced. It was simply a first phone screening, talking for about 5 to 10 minutes about why I wanted the role, how I found my studies in accounting, and so on. Then a second phone screening with another person from HR with similar questions, but this time I was prepared and allowed to ask my own questions too. After that, a third in-person interview was conducted at the office with one of the partners and one of the managers. It was just me, the partner and the manager. The partner was very friendly and simply had a conversation with me, about both the role and why I wanted it, but also just about me as a person in general, how I found university, what I do with my free time, any stories from my days in retail, just a simple 30 minute get-to-know you kind of chat. I will never forget it, it was actually pretty fun. In the interviews I was asked the usual questions such as why I wanted the role, what I expected I would be doing day-to-day, how I found the classes I took in university, if I had a problem with team members what did I do and so on. I was also asked just general questions about my life, hobbies, aspirations, what I thought about work in general and so on. I would recommend that they come as they are rather than what they think the firm would want. SW is great at allowing different individuals to learn and feel welcome while being themselves. I would also recommend that they come ready with many questions, as the people at SW are always willing to answer questions and to help everyone learn and grow as much as possible.

The pay at my work is pretty average, but they also provide a variety of benefits which make me grateful to work at the company. Free lunch every Tuesday and Wednesday. Also a $1,000 JB Hi-Fi allowance to set up your work from home equipment, as well as a $500 clothing allowance for the graduates.

Formal training is really good and informal training is even better. I am constantly working with my team and receiving on-job training weekly.

Work Hours
Our company is extremely flexible with hours and offer working from home for extra flexibility. If I had an appointment during the day, I can easily make up my time when I get back and there would be no issues.

Sustainability
We have energy saving measures such as auto lights, and utilise a bin system including green waste, recyclable plastics and soft plastics. It is important because SW promotes reducing environmental footprint because they say it in their marketing and sustainability reports. I.e. actions speak louder than words
