Pros & Cons

  • The level of responsibility. Also, the people are genuinely nice and care about my career progression.
  • Opportunities to learn and develop skills that aren't necessarily aligned with my qualifications. Flexibility. Career development opportunities. Good culture among teams.
  • Lifestyle, work conditions, and respect you're treated with.
  • Pay and Superannuation benefits.
  • The team around you is incredibly friendly and will always take the time to explain/introduce you to the work during your time here.
  • Pay.
  • Sometimes there is a lack of consistency with workload; some days you're busy and others are quiet.
  • There's not really enough people for all the work there is to do.
  • Job security - not knowing if you will have a permanent job or if your current team is willing to keep you on longer term after the graduate program.
  • Sometimes short timeframes to complete certain deliverables.

Moving up the ranks is a real possibility, there are plenty of job openings, moving across different areas is also possible. It requires updating your CV, preparing for the interviews, and to show interest and willingness to learn.

Corporate Social Responsibility
There have been clean up initiatives within the first week of starting and there continue to be socially responsible efforts and training within the department.

Culture
8.1
Culture
The company's culture seems to be considerate and professional. There is less socialising amongst colleagues outside of the office, which is fine, but during office hours we all know the value of collaboration and teamwork. There is clear hierarchy in the way it's run, but this isn't reflected in the level of treatment or quality of work given to any one worker.

Diversity

Diversity
Right from the first day in the office I noticed how much effort has been given to making it a diverse and respectful space. There are no negative comments to mention here, I think the department has really stuck to it's word and set up a space for everyone. Recruitment collects diversity information respectfully, retention seems to be consistent across most diversity factors which reflects on the workplace environment. Company runs initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and Veterans.

As a business analyst in the health system, we are often providing solutions to project business problems. Day-to-day could involve, but not limited to, responding to RFIs, working on artefacts (documentation) for the customer, meetings/workshops to elicit requirements, internal meetings to discuss direction moving forward, detail design activities, setting up meetings, minute documentation, process flow documentation.

I was assigned a 'buddy' when I started which was fantastic to help me learn the ropes of the government and a new job. My manager is fantastic, we speak weekly and it's generally a mixture of performance/informal meetings. They provide good feedback and suggestions with regards to my work.

I submitted my application on the Smart Jobs portal and completed a few online tests. Part of my application included a video message, which is a great way for employers to get a sense of who you are. Only downside to the application process was the wait time, it took a few months before I was selected for an interview. I was offered my role approximately three weeks after my interview. I would suggest candidates be prepared to actively listen during the interview, you learn a lot about the team and their work which benefits your understanding of the job and how you can relate that to your experiences. Make sure to be yourself, don't take things too seriously (but be professional), and give yourself a bit of time before any meeting to prepare.

There are many courses made available to employees throughout the year that are available online and in-person. The graduate program also offered many different in-person training days.

We need to spend 50% of our time in the office (5 days every fortnight) but our manager will let us work from home on our office days if we have an appointment or something. On top of that, we have flexitime, but you need to discuss with your manager before you use it however you like. But my manager, and other teams on my floor are very flexible! A few of my coworkers start at 10am because that’s what works for them.
