Pros & Cons

  • Flexible working environment - very easy to transition to working from home during the pandemic. Supportive and welcoming employees. Focus on sustainable initiatives
  • Schneider Electric care about their people and support their growth. Has a graduate I can see that we are valued for our mindset and willingness to learn.
  • The community and culture are very welcoming and inviting. People (whether it is your manager or colleague) genuinely care for each other. Flexible working is also a great thing. It isn't just something people say but what the company believes in.
  • Being a part of Schneider Electric is a privilege for many reasons: - Support towards graduates and their development - Communication between managers / senior staff to ensure workload is manageable - True appreciation of work/life balance by encouraging us to prioritise life outside of work
  • The people culture at Schneider Electric is fantastic. Everyone I've worked with has been incredibly lovely and supportive, which is a wonderful feeling to experience as a Graduate. I've been able to undertake challenging and meaningful work across Engineering, Marketing and Finance disciplines and across multiple industries in Automation and IT Services, which has allowed me to understand my potential and what I'm capable of.
  • The best thing I love about my company and office is the highly collaborative environment. Everyone who I meet is always willing to teach me about what they're working on and will allow me to get involved.
  • Work is very flexible and allows a great mix of home and office. Ability to change roles every 8 months during the program to try out different roles. Great learning opportunities and guidance from the business.
  • Schneider Electric is a global company with many business units, at time you feel lost not actually knowing what everyone does.
  • Everyone is so busy! - but despite that, they always come back to help and support you.
  • The sheer amount of knowledge that must be learnt is very intimidating. But this is the reality of working in any highly technical industry. It is a challenge nonetheless, but a welcome one.

The company has a lot of local and global opportunities to grow and develop into different roles. My manager has been very good in helping with my career plan and investing in me as a graduate and my skills to build me up to take a position in his team following my graduate program.

Culture
Company culture is amazing. Highly inclusive. Everyone is very switched on and so friendly. I love how everyone in the office space meshes together so well on a social and intellectual level. Interacting with my superiors is always a joy and they are great to speak to on both a professional and social level. Outside of work, we have the occasional social meetups where we can get to all know each other on a more personal level.

Whilst I have worked there, several events including an LGBTQ+ presentation, Women's week and celebrations of employees' individual cultures have been held. There are also internal groups that hold events, social networking meetings and interactions for specific groups, including the Women in Schenider Electric (WISE) and LGBTQ+ groups I am a part of.

My role as a graduate engineer within a sales business capability is quite dynamic: - On a technical level, my responsibilities include solutions and pricing secure power solutions for customers - On a commercial level, there are extensive opportunities to present a solution, develop rapport with customers and work alongside an array of teams to progress through a project

Management
Managers are generally good but depend on the person. Some people are busier than others. If your manager does not make for a good mentor or have time for one, there are many others in the company that are willing to be mentors. Generally, managers will give constructive feedback on tasks.

Office Work Environment
The offices are modern with excellent facilities and amenities to promote an inviting space for people to work. Cannot fault Schneider's architecture and engineering! The dress code is business casual but no one will tell you off for wearing a suit!

Recruitment

Recruitment
There were not too many stages and it didn't feel overwhelming compared to other graduate programs recruitment processes. I applied online, did a further application. I then completed a personality/ scenario simulation remotely. We then did a virtual interview using a website that recorded our answers. Once I made it through that we had face to face interviews over teams due to the pandemic. I heard 2 weeks later that I got the job. Roughly 6-week process altogether.

The pay is good. There is also the possibility to earn a bonus of up to 5%. Schneider Electric also did not pass on the cost of the increased compulsory super to the employees so not complaining!

Training

Training
There is initial onboarding training common across all business units. There is specific training within the business unit as well. This training is all rolled out online via a global website used by all employees and the training is tracked upon completion, allowing managers to see the training that has been ticked off. Outside of this, I also received specific training for my role through several online classes with a skilled instructor. All this combined has allowed me to learn about the company and the fundamentals of my job.

Work Hours

Work Hours
The company is very flexible about when you work and how long you work for. If you wish to work beyond the standard hours, that's fine but it's not pushed. And if you inform your manager and team of the hours you want to work, they can negotiate/work around your schedule if it's reasonable.
