Application Process & Interviews at Queensland Government Digital Graduate Program

Generic. Nothing out of the ordinary

The interview process was straight forward and simple.

2 sections -behavioural/technical questions -practical assessment

Resume, cover letter, plus expression of interest. One round of interviews, no additional assessment. Formal offer of position afterward.

During my application I had to complete an aptitude assessment. Interview process was a bit slow at times (2 months from when I sent in my resume to when I started in the position).

Virtual interview

Situational and behavioural type questions.

Basic problem solving questions (I started on the service desk and moved to network operations), questions about communications skills etc.

What is the difference between TCP/UDP Give an example of when you work well in __________.

One scenario with ten minutes perusal around example work. Shorter questions around software development with examples wanted. Shorter questions around cultural fit with examples wanted.

History with certain relevant technologies, how I work in a team. Discussed my previous projects.

Something about what to do when a server room gets compromised. And tell them about myself.

Just make sure you are organised and prepare so you can answer the questions that the interviewers are asking.

If you know what you are talking about you will have no issues. Be confident and sell yourself.

Just show that you're interested, highly motivated, keen to put in the effort. Create a pitch for yourself, so you can tell them who you are, your interests etc. It's a professional way to start an interview. Practise STAR responses for general behavioural questions and cement the answers in your head so when asked, you can fluently talk about it.

Know your software development lifecycle, and definitely have examples ready for everything.

ALWAYS follow the STAR method for interviews and cover letters. Be able to provide a response for every required skill or responsibility listed on the position description.

Just be yourself. Come with a genuine interest in cyber security and be open to learning.
