Size and presence: In South Australia, we own and operate the copper-gold mine at Prominent Hill and the copper-gold mine at Carrapateena. We have a pipeline of earn-in agreements with experienced exploration companies in Australia and internationally. We also have an operating mine and a significant pipeline of development and exploration opportunities in the Carajás and Gurupi provinces in Brazil.
Best known for: We have developed Global Performance Standards, a set of minimum expectations for how we should go about our work and manage our risks to make sure our people can make responsible, value-creating decisions.
The good bits: Oz Minerals is a good solid growing Company. They have excellent financial management being one of those companies that have money in the bank and they have a very nice reward system.
The not-so-good bits: There are targets for everything and you have to work hard to achieve them but they aren't unrealistic either.
OZ Minerals was formed after the merger of Oxiana Limited and Zinifex in 2008.
In 2009, Chinese state-owned China Minmetals proposed the purchase of the heavily indebted company. The Chinese proposal was one of three high-profile moves by Chinese firms to acquire stakes in the Australian mineral sector in early 2009. The China Minmetals offer along with other proposed purchases, especially the Chinalco planned stake in Rio Tinto, caused a great public furor, adding political pressure to block Minmetals The Government of Australia blocked the sale, citing concerns about the location of the Prominent Hill Mine within the sensitive military area. A deal not including Prominent Hill was approved, and the majority of the company was acquired by China Minmetals; the acquisitions became the company MMG.

We are offering students enrolling in Mining Engineering at the University of Adelaide, a two-year scholarship worth $10,000 each year of study.
Want to get ahead during the summer vacation period with a paid work experience placement?
We offer vacation work so you get to experience what it's like to live and work on a mine site. This three-month placement will be at one of our Australian operational assets - Prominent Hill or Carrapateena.
If you want to take your studies to the next level, consider our OZ Minerals & Playford Trust Industry Honours Scholarship.
You will receive a $9,000 scholarship fund if you're looking to enroll in an Honours in Geoscience, Mining Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
