I've recently been promoted into my role where I will continue to develop my skills to become an SME in this team.

There are some awareness projects undertaken by employees, generally run as volunteer groups. These include DV awareness, International Women's Day, etc. With COVID its been a bit more difficult to organise, and it also depends on people's work.

The culture at NGA is a collaborative one, our teams work cohesively to develop solutions. I feel supported amongst my peers and leaders as the culture exists in the formal and informal workplace environment. Informal events include morning coffees in the office, lunch and learns, and social clubs after work.

I can only comment to my team, but there is a great commitment to diversity and ensuring that a job is filled by the best person for the job rather than personal interests. Furthermore, the inclusivity aspect of the project has ensured that people with child care, maternity leave, phycological issues have all been met with maturity and understanding. Sourcing efforts for roles include seeking applicants from LinkedIn, Seek, Prosple.

As a requirements engineer I am heavily involved in the systems engineering work, and manage databases that track project requirements. There is a lot of interaction with many different people within the project, and I have opportunities to learn about other aspects of systems engineering such as integration and test.

Most of the managers I've interacted with have been really open, and willing to answer questions. Very rarely have I been made to feel like I'm not important, and they value being able to talk to you and get an honest opinion.

There's a lot of different places to work, and depending on where you work there's a lot of variety on what you can wear. The facilities overall are pretty good across the board, however desk space is generally limited in some areas. As for dress code, as long as you are presentable to a business to business casual level, anything goes! I've dyed my hair almost every colour of the rainbow and worn a bunch of makeup over the years, and no one bats an eye.

I was initially interviewed for an internship role, and was offered the interview after applying via their job application site. The interview was relaxed and conversational, and beyond the interview there were additional security clearance applications associated with the role. A secondary interview was conducted for my current role, where there was an informal interview initially, then a formal assessed interview afterwards. This was an internal interview, so no further assessments were needed after. Questions around safety culture, how you manage time, and how you work with other people. There were some technical questions, especially in my second interview, and it was encouraged to be honest if you didn't know. Interviewing isn't about repeating what is on your resume, and generally the people interviewing you can see through any persona you might put up to appear more confident, skilled, etc. It's best to be up front and honest, and to ask questions. Also, its a good idea to ask at the end of the interview if there was anything you can do to improve or anything you did well. It shows that you are self-aware and are open to constructive criticism.

In my 1 year tenure at NGA I have moved roles from one team to another within our People & Culture function. I've been supported in my transition to learn and develop new skills, supporting the business and my personal exposure. Additionally, there is a development model to support individual development.

Very flexible - you can apply to work from home up to three days of the week, and you can adjust your hours per day depending on your personal schedule. There's also the option of having every second Friday off, as long as you balance your hours out throughout the week.

Having recycled bin options is a great way to minimise the ability to recycle options. Other options to reduce the NGA Fortitude Valley office's environmental footprint is yet to be seen or mentioned.
