What's your job about?

I am a Senior Accountant in the Audit and Assurance division at Nexia Sydney. My role entails performing detailed testing of financial statements and identifying discrepancies leading to a deeper understanding of financial analytical techniques and accounting principles. A typical day for me is working closely with audit team members on engagements, travelling to various client locations and reporting directly to managers and partners while working closely with clients to develop meaningful relationships.

What's your background?

My journey to becoming a Senior Accountant at Nexia Sydney began with my studies in Accounting and Biotechnology. After graduation, I was eager to apply my knowledge in a firm that specialised in Biotechnology, leading me to Nexia. I joined the company after a two-stage interview process, which I found through LinkedIn. I have been an Auditor for 3.5 years, and it has been a fulfilling experience.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, someone with a different background could do my job, provided they have the necessary skills and willingness to learn. Critical skills include time management, adaptability, and strong interpersonal abilities. These skills help navigate the complexities of the audit environment and maintain positive client relationships.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

What I enjoy the most about my job is the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of financial statements and uncover insights that drive business decisions, while being on client site. I enjoy the analytical challenge and the satisfaction that comes from providing valuable audit services to our clients.

What are the limitations of your job?

The biggest limitation of my job is the demanding nature of audit work, which can sometimes impact work-life balance. However, Nexia values health and mental well-being. We are encouraged to support one another and are supported by the whole team, including mentors, supervisors and managers.  Nexia’s support has allowed me to develop an effective balance between having success in my career, without sacrificing precious time with family and friends.
