Culture at Department of Transport and Main Roads

9.1
9.1 rating for Culture, based on 31 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
We are a smaller team, but we have a very supportive and collaborative culture. I can literally go to anyone (when they are not in a meeting) and ask questions or for help. If something does not go right, it does not turn into a blame game but instead, we focus on what went wrong, what did we learn, how can we change it. TMR a whole has this approach as well with a high focus on learning, personal and team wellbeing as well as a high quality of work. TMR organises a lot of events such as the P4P week, Cubie awards, forums, and tonnes of of different training opportunities and showcasing of different initiatives. There are events created at all levels and most come back around or are recorded eventually. There also events where TMR has partnered with other departments or external partners, such as the Pride march or externally facing campaigns such as the Street Smarts one that we can get involved in too. For socialising, it is a team-to-team basis, but I my team does things like team lunches, coffee runs, walks and talks or just drinks afterwork.

Culture at the office is great, only challenge is at the beginning might take a bit of time to get used to you. You don't feel the hierarchy as all are humble and likes to work in the team in the same level. Everyone loves to chat and even can offer you for snack or coffee ... amazing people in TMR, I am proud to be part of the it.

It is easy going. I can talk to the managers and they always seem to have the time to discuss di?erent things with me.

The culture is professional where people dress professionally to come to work, are always on time, and know and follow rules very well. Its fun too, as there are social events usually on a Friday and networking events from time to time. Overall its a great place to work

Everyone works together and find common ground even if opinions clash. There is mutual respect for everyone and their individuality.

Everyone gets along really well. The managers are really supportive and communicate with us about everything. The only reason I rated it a 9 was because we don't really do things together outside of work.

In-office culture is relaxed with a determination of completing tasks through the use of collaborative measures and ask-and-you-will-receive-help manta. After hours culture is relaxed understanding that work should be limited to work-hours and building strong relations with colleagues will help promote in-office ideas and collaboration.

From regular employees to the director, most people are on similar footings socially, and the title behind each name does not seem important. In that sense, it is easy to get along and enjoy conversation with the people around me. For employees above the director level - executive director, general manager, and then the executive leadership team, there is a much clearer barrier, but they still act friendly and warm when the rare opportunity to interact passes. I do not engage with my colleagues much outside of the office. In my view, everyone acts with the same professionalism in social interactions outside of work. Cooperation and teamwork is outstanding, and people are both incredibly helpful and incredibly responsive to help. Our platforms make communication across teams and the department simple and accessible, so it is easy to collaborate with others.

Cooperation within and between teams is encouraged, with a culture of socialising and prioritising face-to-face opportunities while still accommodating ?exible work arrangements.

In the office, the culture is amazing. Whatever people talk about, they will include you into the conversation. When you don't know the person and you need to complete a specific task, people here are always there to help you complete the task, even directors/ director generals are always there to help. The company has a 'One TMR' approach. What I mentioned above is my definition of 'One TMR'.

In our fantastic work environment, collaboration is key. During office hours, you'll find a structure that promotes teamwork without being overly hierarchical. Everyone's input is valued, creating a cooperative atmosphere where we work together on meaningful projects for the community. Our culture is built on mutual respect, shared goals, and the enjoyment of each other's company.

My team is really supportive and lovely, feel like I can chat with them very easily. In the office the people I sit with are all really lovely and chatting with them is really nice. The structure of roadtek is a bit weird, like my manager is 3 hours away.

At Roadtek Cairns-North, we have an Operations Manager at the highest position in the hierarchy. In my team, I work under a Project Manager and report to him. I have other colleagues in the team, and we collaborate and assist each other when needed. For socialising, we organize morning teas during various occasions, go to lunch together, and we're now looking forward to attending our upcoming Christmas party.

Great cooperation and socialising is minimal.

The direct team that I am in has excellent culture that is lead directly by the members of the team. The PMs report to PDs who are part of the leadership group. High cooperation and teamwork occurs amongst the team members who often approach each other for questions, queries or advice. Outside of work hours, the team generally limit the social interaction to team bonding exercises and events.

Great team culture and culture towards making sure your work-life balance is kept.

I have been impressed with the culture at the department and have found my role to be a wonderful development opportunity. I have found my colleagues to be approachable, friendly, and sociable. I have had many opportunities to develop my skills in a supportive environment.

Staff arrive and leave as it suits them, the flexible working hours and easy use of Accrued Time Off is splendid. Staff are friendly and helpful. State government and the public service are hierarchical, due to the sensitive nature of working on a tax-funded budget, but it is not strict and oppressive like the Private Sector.
