Career Prospects at Department of Transport and Main Roads

A lot of opportunities in TMR, always look into requirements to promote and how can you achieve it ... and always ask, there is no embarrassing questions.

I already had the opportunity to take on higher duties and there is support.

Very interested to learn about career progression as I"m not at the stage of progressing with that yet as I"ve only been here for a month or so

My lack of training has made me feel unequipped to promote unfortunately

Iam not too sure about this, however, from my understanding you can fill in people places as they become available to move up the ranks.

Just being open to new opportunities and saying yes. The longer you stay the more opportunities will be available.

Working in the government space offers great promotion opportunities.

I am currently relieving in a higher role than the grad role and I feel like there is so many opportunities to do this throughout the company

The progression system of an engineer within the department has been explained to me. As an engineer you learn competencies as you develop and are required to elaborate on these in order to progress up the line. The requirements of promotion including becoming a registered engineer had the requirements of becoming registered have been provided to me to follow.

Moving up the ranks is based on suitability. The best candidate is chosen for each role, and it is to my understanding that this process is transparent and fair. I have expressed my desire to progress my career at the company to my manager, and they have encouraged me to take opportunities when they become available. My manager has also provided me directly with promotion opportunities.

Movement within and between teams for progression opportunities is strongly encouraged and supported.

There are lots of promotion opportunities. People at TMR have the opportunity to apply for roles that really intrigues them. When those people go to di?erent departments, other people have the opportunity to take on acting roles so they can gain the experience. Those experiences open the door for promotional permanency opportunities in the future. I believe at TMR, opportunities are everywhere.

I'm feeling extremely unsatisfied. There's no promotion in sight, no matter how much effort I put in. To advance in my career, I have to apply for roles rather than seeing organic progression.

Not to many opportunities as not many managers but seems like I will have the chance to grow a lot and learn a lot

Career progression comes from you applying for higher positions rather than an automatic process. Very often the positions with the org that are advertised are not relevant to me; as a result, whenever positions that are relevant are advertised, you're competing against a very large number of people.

I have had the opportunity to act in higher positions during the first 6 months in my role. There are also a number of internal opportunities, and opportunities in other departments available for those who are interested.

Time and experience is needed to move up ranks within this company. Roles and opportunities are frequently available, if one has the experience to apply and be the successful candidate.
