The Townsville Hospital and Health Service Story

The health service comprises 20 health facilities, including Townsville University Hospital, which is the tertiary referral hospital for the whole of northern Queensland.

Townsville University Hospital provides, complex, high level services across a wide range of specialities including cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, adult and paediatric ICU, general surgery, medicine, radiation and medical oncology, transplant haematology, paediatrics, obstetrics and neonatology to the North Queensland region. Uniquely, Townsville University Hospital is the only tertiary facility in Queensland to offer all of these services within the one hospital.

In addition to Townsville University Hospital, the Townsville HHS delivers clinical services in eight locations over 149 500 square kilometres. Our services include rural hospitals, health centres, multi-purpose health services, mental health rehabilitation, clinics and aged cared, supported by our innovative telehealth services.

Please note that you must apply via the Queensland Health Nursing and Midwifery portal for nursing and midwifery Graduate program opportunities. Applications for the 2022 Program will open in July 2021.

We anticipate that the 2022 RMO Campaign application portal will be open to applications in May/June 2021.

What documents can you have prepared ahead of time?

If the job description requires a qualification, arrange a certified copy or bring the original with you to the interview and the hiring manager can copy and verify the document.

Mandatory documentation requirements

Proof of Identify: you will need to provide three current documents as proof of identity from the following list (include at least one type of photographic ID, and one type of identification that contains a signature and date of birth):

  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • Australian driver s licence
  • Australian student photo ID
  • Australian proof of age card
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Health care card
  • Medicare card
  • Pension concession card
  • Utility bill (e.g. water, gas, electricity)
  • Working with children check (Blue Card)

All document copies must be certified by a JP, Commissioner of Declarations, solicitor or notary public.

All new employees must undergo pre-employment screening checks (criminal history check, or aged care check or working with children check or correctional services check as applicable to the role description). These checks are organised by the Hiring Manager and must be completed before a new employee can commence work.

Information about Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) immunisation
Please be advised that roles that have a direct contact with patients or who in the course of their work may be exposed to blood/body fluids or contaminated sharps are required to be immunised for Hepatitis B.

Roles that have contact that would allow acquisition and/or transmission of measles, mumps, rubella, varicella or pertussis, and have face to face contact with patients and/or work in a clinical area require evidence of immunisation of the aforementioned diseases.
