TasNetworks came into being on July 1, 2014, following the merger of Aurora Energy’s distribution network (i.e. poles and wires) and Transend Networks (i.e. big towers and lines). The state-owned corporation is responsible for supplying power to a quarter of a million Tasmanian homes and businesses. TasNetworks also owns and operates telecommunication infrastructure to “enable safe and efficient operation of the electricity system”.

Your role

This is a full-time fixed-term role offering an Electrical Engineer role.

You will be eligible to join the TasNetworks team in a variety of streams depending on your skills and passion. Whether it be Stakeholder Engagement, Environment, People, IT, or another stream that is relevant to TasNetworks, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply! As a graduate, you will get the amazing opportunity to move around the business every 6 months for 2 to 3 years to ensure you gain exposure and diverse experience in a variety of business units.

Your Responsibilities: 

• Develop technical expertise across the TasNetworks’ distribution and transmission network.
• Gain an understanding of the organization, its policies, processes, standards, and culture.
• Developing an understanding of the electrical network industry and contemporary issues (ie. National Electricity Market and regulated environment).
• Rotating through different areas of the business regularly as part of the program without having a ‘substantive position’.
• Working on a variety of often unrelated projects and ensuring goals are achieved within agreed timeframes.

About you

Requirements:

• Demonstrate our Core Competencies, which are central to all positions at TasNetworks.
• A Tertiary Qualification in Engineering.
• Vocational experience in a similar industry/sector.
• A current Driver’s License.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to work well in small teams.
• High-level computing skills (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, programming, etc.).  A sound understanding of electrical systems.
• An awareness of relevant Australian Standards.
• Experience using power system analysis software.
• Increase your knowledge and skills specific to the electricity transmission industry through formal and/or on the job training.
• Manage concurrent tasks and priorities.
• Complete essential skill development (presentation skills, time management, communication styles, etc.).
• Work within core business functions to gain an understanding of a network service provider and the electricity supply industry in general.
• Undertake analysis and load flow studies to determine the best technical solution for short and long term planning.
• Prepare ad hoc reports as required by the business.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and reviews, project plans, and contract documentation.
• Able to demonstrate the capacity to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
