Culture at Shell

8.5
8.5 rating for Culture, based on 45 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
The graduate committee organises regular events for socialising and learning. However, again due to a smaller graduate intake the attendance is smaller than other companies. Beyond the graduate committee, socialising and team cooperation is self-driven.

I am in the Engineering team and fall under the Mechanical and AI team. More specifically, I am in the inspections team (which falls under AI). I work closely with the inspection engineers mainly, but also regularly seek advice from people in asset integrity. I sometimes seek advice from the mechanical team, however, their work is different to mine. We have regular social gatherings at all levels - from upper management (engineering manager), to just my asset integrity/inspections team. I regularly catch up with people outside my team as well, including people from maintenance and operations and also mechanical.

The office culture is very good and the graduate cohort is extremely close. The cohort participates in both during work and after work functions organised by the company and sometimes spontaneously organised by the group.

There is a really good culture in the office - people are genuinely kind and care about you as a person.

Matrix-organisation, typically open, honest communication. Strong sense of cooperation and welcoming atmosphere. Organisational structure can lead to complex process/admin/project set-up in terms of communication which takes time to understand and navigate After hours: regular social events to get to know colleagues

Work life balance sometimes not great, social interaction with senior colleagues limited, but graduates very social. At times the corporate structure can be confusing

My team and immediate network possess a great social culture which transcends into the office. Generally quite a flat structure in my immediate team which is great.

Fantastic culture. Open culture where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves. Everyone is friendly and willing to help each other where they can. There is emphasis working as team however also the freedom to work independently. Fun culture with a balance of achieving goals an performance while maintaining a life outside of work

Shell has great diversity in its workforce. I get the opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds and it really adds to my working experience.

Great cooperative culture, both during and after hours. Most of the office spaces are designed as open plan to facilitate easy communication and rapport, plus the diffusion of ideas between team members. Most sites have a social club which holds events like after work drinks, golf days, family days and of course an awesome Christmas party. Most people in Shell are also very fitness driven, and there are several running/sporting teams and events going on all around the year.

Quite an individualistic mindset. A large majority of people tend to act in their own self interests, rather than those of the company. My team and immediate network possess a great social culture which transcends into the office. Generally quite a flat structure in my immediate team which is great

The company culture is good. We are given the opportunity to talk and ask questions to members of leadership teams, as well as encouragement and support for collaboration with colleagues.

Mostly positive, relaxed and friendly.

Culture is much better than I have experienced at other large multinational corporations. People definitely feel a part of something larger than their own team. However some aspects of working in a large company creep in. Minor rumblings and discontent amongst teams due to lack of direct link with senior leaders.

Work life balance is promoted but it's translation into action is often lacking.
