Your new career

Our two-year Ignite Graduate Program offers you an incredible opportunity to explore the diverse career possibilities available to law graduates within a full-service accounting and advisory firm. Law takes on many different shapes, at Pitcher Partners, this includes areas such as core tax, state tax, personal insolvency and corporate insolvency.

As an Analyst in the Law Stream, you will complete three 8-month rotations across Tax Advisory and Business Recovery & Insolvency. Within these teams you will gain exposure to a wide variety of work, clients, and industries, and utilise your law background to help our clients.

In the past, our analysts have been exposed to work ranging from reviewing legislation and applying it to client cases; putting together briefs for solicitors and barristers; preparing evidence and questions; attending mediations and witness examinations; communicating with creditors and employees of insolvent businesses; interpreting financial accounts; preparing statements of claim; tax residency analysis; reviewing payroll tax reconciliations to determine tax liability; drafting advice and responses to client queries; drafting workpapers; scoping engagements; reviewing conflict of interest declarations; and drafting client reports. The work is diverse, and each day brings a new learning opportunity!

Throughout your journey, you will receive guidance from dedicated buddies, managers, and graduate program managers. You'll also have the chance to interact closely with our partners and senior staff. Our tailored learning and development program will complement your experience, providing ongoing technical, personal, and professional growth opportunities.

Upon completing the program, you will be offered a permanent role within one of our practice areas that best matches your interests, skillset and business requirements.

A graduate in audit - the work is very repetitive and doesn't simulate my mind that much. However when there is a lot of work it keeps me busy and time flies.

The BA&A(Audit) division has a variety of both audit and tax work. Day-to-day responsibilities range from preparing tax returns, FBT returns and BASs to audit fieldwork and planning. Often, we will travel to audit client sites to work which are all over Victoria.

Pros and cons of working at Pitcher Partners

Pros

  • Supportive management and the ability to get involved in many different types of work.

  • All team members are very approachable and friendly, there is a great workplace culture.

  • The best thing about working at Pitcher Partners is how invested your colleagues are in your learning and development.

  • Very good office, new and well maintained, spacious and open and facilities such as sit-stand desks and an on-site barista are great.

  • The social culture at Pitchers is genuinely amazing! There are many events on as a firm.

Cons

    • Work load can be high at times.

    • There is sometimes a lack of work for all the graduates, meaning there never seems to be a consistent workflow.

    • The pay is an industry standard and receive a bonus for completing CA.

    • I found it very challenging to start client work during peak periods as everyone had a lot on their plate.

    • As part of the graduate program, places for positions in more specialist divisions are quite limited, and it is challenging to distinguish yourself from other graduates for selection. While there is a good working environment, and a lot of training is provided there is still a high expectation on your individual performance (both quality and efficiency).
