Flexible and great culture but it depends on your team

In the office, most people are happy to help when i have a problem so overall the work culture is good. there is a trend people are getting busier and busier so i have to work after hours sometimes. thanks to the grad program -- after hours the grads can have some activities outside company, and share our experience in different roles, and support each other. this is a valuable experience working as a new grad as i do not feel alone and do not need to keep everything to myself.

I'm not sure about my company's culture after hours as i usually work within 9am-5pm. certain parts of optus are more hierarchical than others but overall i don't think optus is very hierarchical. some teams are more cooperative than others. sometimes tensions might appear between certain teams, because they belong to different business units/departments and each of these business units has different kpis, which i think is very common in large corporate in general and these kind of problems are probably less evident in startups. the harmony between teams will be better if there is an alignment on kpis on the leadership level.

Weekly activities, fundraising and educational talks. diversity networks and a variety of social events

Strong culture, very inclusive. interacting on a non work basis is fairly limited. it would be nice to see more recognition/celebration events

There is not a lot of socialising outside of work, but in the office everyone is friendly, helpful, approachable. there is a strong sense of teamwork, and it is a relatively flat hierarchy.

Everyone is good and fun to work with, love them all.

My company first and foremost really values diversity & inclusion. we welcome people from all walks of life, and we view diversity and inclusion as a key component of our brand, and the way we operate. the vast majority of people are welcoming and friendly, and are keen to get to know each other. most have a team first mindset and we are willing to put in the hard yards for one another to deliver a strong outcome. we do tend to have a vertical hierarchy, which requires you to know the correct channels to go through in order to present ideas.

Company culture is good in the office and after hours, some teams seem to get lunch and drinks after and promote external events such as volunteering and team building. structure and hierarchy is okay but it can be difficult to work with those in higher positions due to their calendar being booked out consistently with meetings. seems like additionally those in higher positions are working much longer hours regularly, often i see people online at 8am and not logging off until after 6:30pm. i've heard some other grads' managers go back online late at night to do extra work due to load requirements which doesn't seem sustainable and healthy long term.

The culture can be vibrant and exciting, the teams have semi regular catch ups outside of work where work is rarely talked about (unless the catch up is to celebrate something at work). with this comes a sense of formality and informality, regardless of where you are you can crack a joke and enjoy the time with your colleagues. however the structure of the business is where things somewhat fall apart. each department has their own kpis and tend to be siloed with this comes unnecessary tension when attempting to worth with other departments.

The culture at the company is fairly good, however with regards to taking leave at the end of the year, the pressure that is placed on employees is very high and is of really poor behaviour, as employees should have full autonomy on when they are able to take leave, to meet the diverse lifestyles spread across optus. in my team, the structure is a bit unbalanced with their being a lot of people under one person. ideally the spread of engineers under the manager should be split up so that there is more focus and direction with regards to the work being conducted in the subteams.

Culture is dependant on team, some teams have excellent culture while others is just ok. teams being split across the state also doesn't help with team culture.

As a large organisation, there are many things that are done to keep employees engaged. there are weekly organisation wide sessions called tgif that keep everyone across what is happening throughout the business. there is our yearly optus event that brings together everyone from optus across the company to align on our strategy and learn and have some fun while we are at it. throughout the year there are many other events, whether it be fun, informative or learning sessions. people at optus are quite nice as well and overall good when it comes to cooperation and teamwork. being located where we are there are sometimes after hour events but not as much as some city firms might experience (i would imagine).

From the beginning I have easily been able communicate and ask questions, and never felt out of place despite being a minority. We have also always been encouraged to reach out to SLT to ask questions and set up meetings if we have enquiries, I have found this is fairly easy to do and our SLT are usually always happy to have a coffee.

I think the culture has declined since i've joined. i think trust deteoriated after the cyber attack and optus is very siloed and political.

The structure is fairly hierarchical and most work activities are performed as a result of directives from above, and need approval from the senior leadership. although it depends on the individual, there can be a lack of teamwork or a reluctance to take ownership of tasks unless your requests are escalated to senior leadership. however socially, my co-workers are friendly and amenable, but limited interactions outside of work hours.

The culture is really great, everyone treats each other like human beings and it is the expectation that you treat your colleagues with respect. grads are also given real oppurtunities to make change and are trusted with projects with actual stakes.

The culture at Optus is great, there are many opportunities to network within and outside of office hours. My department isn't too strict on corporate clothing, so the people in m area is very casual, allowing a more welcoming atmosphere to network with.
