Think Beyond

At KordaMentha you can make a real difference from day one.

Through our award-winning graduate program, you'll join a creative and entrepreneurial team that works to solve our clients' most complex commercial problems. You'll work on interesting and varied engagements and experience tailored support, expert mentoring, study assistance and training to help you achieve your career goals.

Your Opportunity: Restructuring

Companies in financial distress engage KordaMentha to urgently restructure and stabilise their businesses, protecting not only monetary value at risk but also their reputation and social licence. Our Restructuring group has been trusted with many of Asia-Pacific's largest and most complex corporate restructures, including Network Ten, Arrium, Tassal, Gunns, Timbercorp and Ansett Australia, as well as restructures of iconic Australian retailers Seafolly and Tigerlily.

Working alongside our Restructuring specialists, this is your opportunity to learn how we look beyond the numbers, take bold and creative steps to protect and recover value, and provide stability and direction in times of crisis. Under expert mentorship, you'll gain valuable experience across independent business reviews, cash flow monitoring and forecasting, restructuring, financial and strategic advisory and formal insolvency appointments.

Make a real impact as, together, we solve our clients most pressing transactional, commercial and reputational challenges.

What you'll be doing:

  • As a graduate in our restructuring team, you'll get to work in creative project teams to manage Australia's largest and most complex corporate restructures, receiverships, administrations and liquidations. While no two days will be the same, you can expect to:
  • work onsite to assist the team with the day to day running of distressed businesses
  • manage creditor enquires and process receipts and payments
  • help to meet statutory obligations including preparing business activity statements and ASIC forms
  • attend meetings with clients and key stakeholders
  • participate in business development and marketing activities
  • research new opportunities by analysing financial and market information and reporting back to Partners
  • But it's not all about work. You'll have a buddy to help you navigate office life as you settle in. You'll choose a mentor who'll help guide your career. And we'll host regular events and activities, bringing together our close-knit team in a friendly and relaxed environment.

I have been on a voluntary administration since the start of my role in the statutory, cash flow and creditor correspondence streams for the most part. Much of my role is administrative and all my outputs are checked by at least one level of management.

Pros and cons of working at KordaMentha

Pros

  • Opportunities to grow and learn. Smaller compared to big 4. Heavy access to senior leadership. Opportunities to get involved in building business/strategy. CA classes paid for.

  • The people and events. It's always enjoyable to see everyone in the office. Especially as a grad, it's great to have so many people around you that are willing to help out and support you.

  • The Office space is premium and one of the better aspects of the employer, with scenic views in the heart of the city, they could not be better.

  • Company is quite social and flat culturally. You can talk to senior people comfortably. Nothing toxic or negative. People are generally highly professional and sociable.

  • Managers are exceptionally talented individuals with a willingness to both learn and help, praise and recognition are given.

Cons

    • Team is still building to have the right middle management/procedures/training in place for grads/trainees.

    • Occasionally, you may be required to work some late nights if you have been placed on a demanding engagement.

    • Busyness as a grad can be very variable.

    • Pay is not great for some of the hours that you are required to do.

    • Not enough structured training content delivered to graduates in the Consulting team.
