We are expected to work set hours, but when time away from the office during the day is needed it is generally accepted with little or no questions.
Graduate, Wellington - 03 Aug 2022
Not very flexible, long hours expected. Usually 10hr days on site.
Graduate, Auckland - 03 Aug 2022
In my current rotation, the hours can be quite long most days of the week. The main reason for this is my responsibilities as a site engineer and then doing the admin work back in the office at the end of the day. Some days can be 11 hour days, however, the company is more than willing to give us late starts or early finishes to compensate.

First rotation (asphalt) was not good. 11-12 hour days, a lot of travel and night shift with no compensation until I raised an issue, and then it was months until I saw my overnight allowances. No flexibility during paving season and very short notice on travel/start times. Second rotation (temporary works) has been very good so far. More stable hours and some flexibility allowed within reason.

I sometimes feel like I am working hours that are relatively long but there is little compensation for working these hours.
Graduate, Tauranga - 03 Aug 2022
Currently very satisfied as in a office role. 40 hr week and flexible arrangements. Construction in major projects was awful. 50+ hours and inflexible.
