Sustainability at Downer New Zealand

Downer have a great commitment to long-term decarbonisation and will aim to be leaders in the construction space. However financial commitment has yet to be seen

I think Downer is heading in the right direction, it needs to get there sooner. Downer is not taking enough effort to look at the small wins as well as the big wins - for example, recycling in the offices.

Working towards EV fleet

Plenty of initiatives happening and always a strong focus during construction.

Sustainability is pushed by management, and we are pressured to consider the environmental impacts on projects.

Downer is moving swiftly to reduce its environmental footprint by reducing petrol/diesel vehicles and as mentioned in the previous question, taking on sustainability initiatives to contribute in reducing negative environmental impact

The framework is beginning to form at a high level, however this is yet to 'trickle down' and like most environmental initiatives it really won't unless hard rules are put into place. However, it should be noted that we are moving in the right direction.

The YPSGG group have some cool initiatives including the Hackathon. Also initiatives like reducing idling and introducing e-vehicles to the Downer fleet.

I know there groups particularly in Tauranga as well as in the young professional domain that are actively encouraging sustainability. I also know that there are efforts placed within the company to reduce our carbon footprint.
