Culture at Downer New Zealand

7.1
7.1 rating for Culture, based on 16 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
It varies from team to team, it can either be really good or really bad

The company has a good culture overall, people are friendly and welcoming. People do tend to work over time and do not have a clear divide between work and non-work time. I have also found some members' reactions toward me as a young female as inappropriate or demeaning.

Overall poor team gatherings, in the department there groups some get along and some have friction.

Everyone in the office is very friendly and helpful. I have been supported since I have started here. My team and I gets together regularly after work hours to catch up with everyone

Good culture in the office, very friendly, however it lacks socialising outside of work hours. A social club is needed.

Good culture around the office and from upper management.

The hierarchy in the company flows quite well structurally and is easy to reach to someone through the chain of command. The co-operation and teamwork in my current rotation as well as my 1st, makes it a pleasure to work with good-hearted people who aim to do the best in their relative discipline. In my current rotation, I have also started to interact socially with my work-peers and do things outside of work

Mostly good. There is sometimes tension between office and ground staff, however this does not affect relationships and work quality and are usually resolved quickly. After hours everyone is friendly to each other.

Due to COVID it has been hard to get to know people, especially outside of work hours.

The team are really close and have created a fun working environment/culture in the office. I have not attended any downer social events.

Company culture is OK here. I'm not located in the main Downer office so I feel like I'm a bit far removed from whatever is going on over there. Nothing much really happens after hours.

In the current team I am in, the culture is very friendly where everyone is encouraging and tries to support you while working. Similarly, everyone is friendly and outgoing outside of work hours. In my current project the structure goes from construction manager to project managers to the engineers. The team gets along quite well.

Highly dependent on your business unit and team. Overall experience minimal cost is spent on internal networking functions or social events which promote culture. As I've worked across the business I've worked within many teams. Some of which are better than others.

Tall hierarchy limits socialising between it. Need many more social and team building activities
