Becoming a site engineer - then project engineer. It is pretty clear and seems like there might be opportunities in these areas.

Graduates get promoted after 2 years. From there, the development is performance depenedent

There is an obvious pathway, and it works well.
Graduate, Wellington - 03 Aug 2022
Clear pathway to move up to a site engineer, usually around 2 years experience on projects.

I'm still a graduate engineer, but looking at others, I feel moving up the ranks is something that is self driven, and the desire to perform well in your current role will get noticed. The civil industry that Downer is such a big part of in NZ and other countries means that work will always be present and roles with higher responsibilities will demand dedicated and knowledgeable leaders.

It is slightly unclear what the range of possibilities are after the graduate programme, so far I have only met site engineers. However, this is not necessarily negative as I have already seen the breadth of experiences available as a site engineer in different sectors.

Still unsure how they will work apart from transitions from grad to site engineer.
Graduate, Nelson - 03 Aug 2022
it very pleasing to hear that grads will receive a pay rise after one year of work.
Graduate, Auckland - 03 Aug 2022
From my understanding, graduates are offered a full time job in a position they are interested in after the 2 year graduate programme which offers a lot of security coming out of university. I'm unsure about the rank progression thereafter.
Graduate, Auckland - 03 Aug 2022
I haven't been informed too much about the promotion possibilities, but I think constantly showing that you can both perform at a high level at work and even sometimes exceed expected duties is a great indicator for moving up the ranks.
Graduate, Tauranga - 03 Aug 2022
It takes time.
