You still need to follow APS category in terms of promotion. As a starting point, you are APS3 and after 10 month program finishes, you will be APS4 automatically. But hard to say what happens later.

Depends on how active you are at looking for positions. If you don't apply or don't ask, then you probably won't get very far. Don't be afraid to ask, the worst that could happen is you getting knocked back, but that itself can be a good learning experience.

Difficult to say having been in the grad program. Although it seems it depends if you are happy to try and negotiate a higher level with your supervisor at completion of the Grad Program.

Promotions are based on both technical expertise and networking. Anyone who can dedicate time to both will go far.

We were guaranteed to progress from APS3 to APS4 after successful completion of the graduate program. Moreover, there are always vacancies at higher level for your interest.

After completing the Graduate Program, you will automatically move up to an APS 4 level.

At the completion of the graduate program, each graduate advances up a level. Further promotion opportunities depends on the area you are in and staffing requirements.

This can depend on managers, work area & demand & supply. Of course demonstrating your competence is key.

The Department supports young leadership and offers a number of opportunities for generalist and specialists to apply for upwards positions. However, as it is government, there are budget restrictions which may inhibit promotion and opportunities.
