Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineering student to join our Major Projects team based in Taupō for an internship this summer! Our Major Projects team provides effective front-end planning support and project execution delivery. We have an ambitious investment pipeline featuring several capital projects that will undergo a thorough and well structured front-end planning process to ensure their successful implementation. These are projects that consist of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Solar, Wind, and Geothermal, some of which are sources of renewable energy that we’re delivering for the first time - pretty cool right? The Major Projects team work in a dynamic and complex project environment where everyday is different. While it can be fast paced and challenging at times, it is also exciting and a lot of fun. What will you be doing?

Well, you’ll spend the summer learning about how we create renewable energy sources, and build and deliver a range of power generation projects. As a Civil Engineer Intern you’ll get exposure to a raft of different civil aspects associated with a geothermal power station platform such as earthworks and associated erosion and sediment control, storm water, roading and pavements and structures related to pipe culverts. You’ll also provide technical support for construction activities, focusing on improvements in technology and processes to ensure reliable, efficient, economical, and safe operations. You’ll learn the ins and outs of project work packages, including technical requirements for equipment and material procurement, construction scope of works, and quality assurance and quality control. You'll also collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, providing a chance to network and build some great relationships Most importantly, you’ll be part of a team that takes true pride in project delivery and is working on projects that will leave a lasting legacy for Aotearoa.

Graduate Success Stories

One thing that drew me to applying for the graduate programme at Contact is that they offer specialised work in some very unique places. For me, the ability to live in Central Otago on the Clutha River comes with the benefits of skiing, biking, surfing, hiking, all in some very sweet scenery.
