Management at Chevron Australia

8.4
8.4 rating for Management, based on 27 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Managers have interest in developing my technical and general competencies.

Managers are quite accessible and provide good mentorship. Very open with praise, recognition and constructive feedback.

Management is relatively well available and are happy to have conversations as time allows. The capacity of a manager as a mentor is very dependent on the manager and mentee, some managers I would describe as wonderful mentors and others I would say are too time constrained to pursue a swathe of mentees (likely have at least some). That is to say they are good overall as mentors in this business. Communication varies, but is focused on balancing transparency and purpose. IE you wouldn't tell the workforce you are 'considering' staff cuts if it may never happen, but if it were confirmed it would be communicated. A crude example but the simplest to put to paper. Team meetings allow for recognition of individuals work well done and one-on-ones allow for direct feedback that tends to be more specific and focused. This allows praise to be shared with the team as it applies but also gives direct confirmation of work well done and improvement areas.

My direct supervisor has been brilliant, I feel very confident to approach with problems and know that I have his full support in my decisions, and not afraid to ask him for help in sticky situations.

My supervisors have been good to me in clearly communicating expectations and rewarding good performance. They have also stood up for employees under them which I respect.

Fantastic supervisors who always have the time to support

My direct line of supervisors and management team are very approachable and communicative, however, other teams and higher management departments I am unsure of.

I'm really impressed with what I've seen of management within the business in terms of how they treat the people around them and make time for people. Praise and recognition is something that I think is done really well by both managers and colleagues, and there's a bunch of different formal systems for it within the business.

My experience with mangers has been positive. I meet with my manager every fortnight to discuss work, get feedback o performance and discuss development opportunities. My manager has been a great technical mentor

Most managers are very good, supportive and good mentors. Some are a bit slack and don't support their graduates as much as they should.

Supervisors make themselves available to ensure that there are frequent team and independent check ins. Similarly, there is a formal performance/feedback process that ensure feedback is streamlined and timely.

Direct managers have been incredible - genuinely care and want to push your career forward For upper management I have been impressed how good they are at remembering everyone's names (considering how many employees are under them), but the interaction is fairly minimal
Graduate, Perth - 19 Oct 2021
Upper management could interact more regularly with employees.

Have been very satisfied with accessibility to direct managers. Easy to approach and provide opportunities for success and exposure to leaders in the business. Still are some barriers with approaching higher-up managers but compared to other companies I believe it is quite open.
