The marketing industry offers a lot of things to love.

What's your job about?

Award-winning supply chain finance solutions provider CapBay works to improve the financial accessibility of Malaysia's underserved SME community. Therefore, as a member of the marketing team, it is my duty to spread awareness of our financial services and the advantages that come with investing with us. Additionally, there is dynamism, which means that each day I will need to think of fresher ideas for how to use CapBay's various platforms to reach my audience. Creating financial, budgeting, and money-saving tips and tricks content, then turning it into social media posts using specialized design apps, has been my responsibility during my internship. My key performance indicator (KPI) required that I complete at least 30 postings each month. I had to be creative at every turn when it came to marketing.

Every teenager who attends school is expected to complete a marketing assignment for instance, creating a poster for sports day falls under this category. However, the marketing industry in real life is different because everything is very detail-oriented. A marketing job is not only to post on social media, it is also to look into client engagement analysis and make sure that frequently asked questions are addressed on both the company's website and social media

What's your background?

Some background information, I was born in Kuala Lumpur and raised in Puchong, Selangor. I attended Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Petaling for primary school. I participated in the majority of choral speaking competitions when I was in primary school. In June 2014, I won the best student award, and I did exceptionally well on my UPSR exams. And from 2015 to 2017, I attended Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Abdul Samad before moving on to SMK Assunta in Petaling Jaya. I was very involved in my high school curricula, especially in sports. In 2019, I was chosen as the athletic captain for the school and as the president of the green sports team and the athletic club. I chose to pursue my Foundation in Business at the University of Nottingham after completing high school. With a CGPA of 3.5 after successfully completing my foundation, I made the decision to continue my academic career at the same university. My BSc in Finance, Accounting, and Management is currently being completed. My friends and I made the decision to complete internships over the summer break. Through a friend, I learned about the internship on CapBay and decided to apply. My current position as a marketing intern in Capital Bay has been the happiest three months of my summer break. I've gained a lot of knowledge about the marketing industry that I can now apply to my upcoming projects, events, and proposals for my university.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The marketing industry offers a lot of things to love. As a marketer, I had to always find ways to engage with my audience because marketing necessitates continuous communication with people. The opportunity I was given to connect with so many people has been the coolest thing I have experienced during my internship. From my co-workers in various business departments to my marketing team and manager, I'm so happy I've learned so much about social media engagement analysis, content ideation, and design for engaging with our followers. My team has always inspired me to push myself and never give up in terms of my communication skills and with those around me, especially my target audience on social media.

What are the limitations of your job?

I am a person who can handle a lot of pressure. Prior to beginning my internship, I was entrusted with a great deal of responsibility at CapBay. As I was on summer break, the working schedule that was assigned to me was pretty convenient for me. There are always two sides to every story, and during my internship, I encountered some challenges. It was occasionally challenging for me to come up with new content every day and keep the engagement going as well as becoming familiar with the CapBay posting layout. Another challenge I faced was trying to listen to my coworkers' opinions because I usually prefer to work alone and complete tasks my way without taking other people's opinions into account.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student

The first advice would be to never doubt the projects and work I do when I present them to others. I should always project confidence, both when speaking and presenting my work that has been given to me, without holding back or worrying that I might make a mistake. Another piece of advice I would give to myself is to always keep an open mind and make an effort to consider other people's perspectives. Because of what I've learned during my internship experience, I was more open to learning new things and feeling optimistic when I did.
