Current Opportunity

BDO Migration Services are looking for a recent law graduate to join their growing team. As a key player in the Migration Services team you will provide legal and administration support to the Principal and other legal professionals. You will work closely with industry professionals whilst enjoying a supportive firm culture.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Recently completed Law degree
  • Experience working in immigration law or a true interest in the field
  • Display solid academic achievement
  • Have strong analytical, critical thinking and organisational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven time management and resilience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a high achieving team
  • Word processing at 75+ words per minute
  • Are aligned to BDO values
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident at time of application

Duties and Responsibilities:

Your duties will include:

  • Assist with preparation and submission of Visa applications
  • Assist Solicitors with drafting professional and accurate legal documents
  • Assist Solicitors in drafting correspondence and advices
  • Prepare draft correspondence and memoranda
  • Legal research, including as to legal, policy and evidential requirements
  • Support Solicitors in carriage of matters
  • Administrative duties such as scanning and uploading documents

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
