Join our Graduate Program within our Payroll Advisory team from January 2025!  

BDO is one of the world’s leading audit, accounting, advisory and consulting firms. We provide a range of services to clients of all sizes and industries across Australia.  

Our Payroll Advisory team assist clients with understanding whether they are at risk of underpaying their employees in line with the relevant Industry Award or Enterprise Agreement, and calculate those underpayments through historical reconciliations. As labelled by the media, “Wage Theft” is an issue that continues to grow, and as a result, so does the need for this service. Criminalisation and the recent “closing the loophole” Act has brought even higher focus to the importance of payroll advisory services, creating an exciting opportunity to be involved in an everchanging and growing area. 

What you’ll do:  

As a Payroll Advisory Graduate at BDO, you can expect to:  

  • Support clients to address matters relating to payroll compliance, specifically related to Industrial Awards and other instruments
  • Utilise your excel skills to analyse and cleanse data provided
  • Be involved in reconciliation tool design, build and implementation (using excel and other platforms)
  • Address matters relating to payroll compliance, industry awards, data cleansing, and reconciliation modelling
  • Attend client meetings, including taking notes and documenting requirements and key actions

What you’ll offer:  

  • You will be in your final year or have recently completed a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
  • Proficient in Excel (essential), Alteryx, Power BI or similar platforms
  • Your ability to commence full-time in January 2025.

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
