Management at BAE Systems Australia

8.4
8.4 rating for Management, based on 206 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
The accessibility depends on the manager, not all are equally busy. From my experience the manager will always make time for their workers, and will be helpful in discussing your future and things that you should consider.

So far they have been very approachable, upfront in terms of communication and updates, and often looking to provide praise and recognition for hard workers.

At my current position. I don't really see my line manager. I probably get to speak to him 1-2 a week at most. I would like to have a more in depth conversations about my work and how I can improve but I'm aware he has lots of other members under him and he's too busy.

I have a great relationship with my line manager and there's a definite view for career progression.
Mid-level Officer, Adelaide - 19 Aug 2024
Management for my team largely seems to be based interstate. Due to the lack of day-to-day contact it can feel like there is some disconnect and difficulty in building workplace relationships with them.
Graduate, Adelaide - 19 Aug 2024
Just about everyone is very approachable, especially management and even the directors. People are actively encouraged to have a chat and ask questions. Some managers are understandably very busy and mightn't always have the opportunity for direct feedback but in my case, they have delegated this within a buddy system where I receive constant positive feedback. Where things haven't gone right in terms of my tasks, these are seen as learning opportunities and it becomes a simple discussion about where things went wrong and what the correct process is. I have not encountered anything other than positive interactions.
Intern, Adelaide - 16 Aug 2024
Although my manager has so much on their plate, they generally schedule in 30 minutes per day for me for technical questions or any other general questions. They never make me feel uncomfortable asking questions or even admin questions and will make the time to call during the day when possible to assist me. We are able to have open and honest conversations about my progression and they are very open to feedback and ask for it where necessary. Performance feedback is never given in a negative manner and is always achieved through discussion and explanation, although I have never received negative feedback on my work, just areas for improvement - which is much more productive. Praise and recognition also come easy to my manager and team, where they will call out good work in team meetings where necessary.

All managers within my team/department are down to earth and approachable. Most managers are interested and available for providing guidance, mentoring and advice.
Graduate, Melbourne - 15 Aug 2024
The managers at this company are excellent. they have been incredibly helpful and a font of knowledge that they are more than willing to pass on. As a graduate I have a Line manager, Graduate Mentor, and work buddy. If I ever have a question I can always ask any of them, if not one of the many team members in our group chat. My managers are always providing praise and feedback, and are never shy to tell me when I have made a mistake and will take me through the correct steps to resolve it.
