Diversity at BAE Systems Australia

8.1
8.1 rating for Diversity, based on 206 reviews
Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
It's a little much, from a personal standpoint, such as asking us to complete our diversity info in a profile (nobody cares how you identify, just that you can do the work). But I understand that a large multi-national corporation needs to do what it does.

I see lot's of promotional material regarding the commitment to diversity however I'm not so sure that it's felt at my level.

There are active recruitment drives to help close gender and indigenous Australian staffing gaps, not just for the whole of the business but in management positions. I believe the business is also specifically dedicated to hiring and supporting staff with disabilities. I myself am queer and neurodivergent and I find this to be one of the more accepting workplaces I have been in. I'm not aware of any of the issues mentioned, I know some staff have flexible arrangements so that they can do school picks/drop offs, some staff have been specifically accommodated in a particular role to support their prioritisation of their growing family, there are very clear development steps towards reaching specific career goals and as far as retention, its not uncommon to meet people who have been with the business for 20 plus years.

I can see that they employ a diverse range of people, and as a female in engineering, I have never felt discriminated against or given specific tasks because of my gender. I am unaware of an issues relating to diversity so cannot comment on the examples provided above.

Seems to be more of an effort on diverse recruiting when I started, however there are not many women in the program I work in.
Graduate, Melbourne - 16 Aug 2024
Good diversity in terms of ethnicities, LGBTIQA+ however could be a slightly greater presence of this and women in leadership positions.

The company has many mandatory starting and reoccurring training courses relating to diversity. In regards to children, parents can work from home and work flexible hours to more easily manage family obligations and work. My Manager recently went on maternity leave and is taking a year off to care for her newborn. when she returns she will have her exact job back. I am not sure on any other details, but from what I heard the company was very accommodating and flexible.

Company is quite diverse ethnically, and relatively diverse w.r.t gender (at least for an Eng. job), sexual orientation I haven't discussed (although not taboo by any means). Whether this diversity is an intentional decision or not for the company unsure, but results are evident.
Graduate, Melbourne - 15 Aug 2024
Multiple groups in company to include diversity and help advocate on said diversity
Graduate, Adelaide - 15 Aug 2024
They are diverse with showing BAE stories and BAE news articles on other communities which is great. Not forceful or too fake with it either.
Graduate, Adelaide - 06 Aug 2024
Engineering is still a male dominated field unfortunately so there is still a major slant towards males in that respect, but the company is definitely investing effort both internally and externally to address this (employee resource group, STEM outreach etc). Company is also supportive of First Nations and LGBTIQA+.
