Their is multiple avenues to go down when working at this company. The main way to learn and develop required skills to be promoted is to have a goal you want to achieve or an area you are interested in and then speak with your manager or any person with experience. They will give you a plan of attack and recommend certain things you should do early on in your career. A great way to get a role you like is to network with people that you think is where you want to be.

I have been promoted twice in my 5 years. From Commercial Graduate to Commercial Officer and now Senior Commercial Officer.
I have found that it takes a good attitude, initiative, being open to feedback which you can grown from and taking opportunities which are presented. However, you also need to chase the promotions and seek out opportunities.
Senior Commercial Officer, Perth - 03 Sep 2024
Internal promotion opportunities at the company are excellent, however the skills learnt at my junior level don't seem particularly transferrable outside the company/industry, potentially limiting my prospects externally, hence my rating (6).
Finished graduate program, Adelaide - 02 Sep 2024
In Finance/Accounting there are plenty of example of people who have stayed in the company since the grad program and made it to higher positions.
Graduate, Newcastle - 02 Sep 2024
I'm not too well versed in this subject just yet, but from my knowledge it seems easy enough if you prove your competency to move quickly up the ranks.
Graduate, Adelaide - 30 Aug 2024
Being a big company there are so many roles and opportunities. They also encourage you to try something in another function which I think is great. I have seen people in my own team be promoted which is inspiring.
Graduate, Adelaide - 30 Aug 2024
I am still learning about this element of the company - however, there is an obvious internal push to nurture employees careers and career growth in order retain their talents for their entire working life.
Graduate, Newcastle - 21 Aug 2024
To move up in the ranks. From speaking to fellow co-workers, you need to show very high passion and dedication to the work your doing. Completing your work to high standards and finishing before due dates to be recognised. I have also been told, experience goes a long way and is very highly viewed by higher ranked co-workers.
Graduate, Adelaide - 20 Aug 2024
A lot of hard work a dedication. This is something you need to drive.
Mid-level Officer, Adelaide - 19 Aug 2024
If staff are considering a career move, they are strongly encouraged to seek new opportunities within the business and this will be accommodated without judgement. Staff are encouraged to follow a 'squiggly' career path, seeking new opportunities, even if they're 'sideways' or even positions seemingly out of their scope, to help diversify their career. It is commonly said that BAE Systems Australia would very much like to retain their staff as much as possible and would want to accommodate peoples career goals.
Graduates specifically are supported to undertake further professional development e.g. CPA Australia and are given 3 graduate years with multiple rotations throughout the business. Graduates are given reasonable influence into the department rotations and also their exit role upon completion.
Intern, Adelaide - 16 Aug 2024
From what I've heard, there's opportunities for career progression. After the grad program I would become a junior engineer, then I could look for leadership roles as well as just progressing into a more senior role over time. We can also look into rotating into other projects if we want to learn new skills or change it up a bit. I am unsure yet how the salary increase compares with other companies.
Graduate, Melbourne - 16 Aug 2024
Plenty of room to work up the ladder, however not necessarily in the direction I would like. The graduate program I am apart of limits my movement to within a specific part of the business. I am gaining experience, skills and knowledge here, and will be set up to progress further, but not really in the area/direction that I expected or really want to, and at this stage it is difficult to shift trajectory.
Graduate, Melbourne - 16 Aug 2024
The graduate program has a structured approach to progressing/promoting in your career. It ensures professional experience is gained through the stability of the 2/3 year program. Everyone within the grad program receives the same salary increase and grade step up. The company takes interest in what you're short, medium and long term goals are and assists with setting you on the correct path to take you in that direction
Graduate, Melbourne - 15 Aug 2024
It has been made aware to me that BAE consistently aim to promote and hire inhouse, rather than search externally for job opportunities. This provides lots of chances for employees to progress within the company, rather than needing to search elsewhere for progression.
Graduate, Melbourne - 15 Aug 2024
intern, casual, potentially graduate program
Intern, Melbourne - 15 Aug 2024
Grad program locks us into the current role for 3 years, a little frustrating. At least allows some form of title and salary progression with each year.
Graduate, Melbourne - 15 Aug 2024
So far, the graduate program just give you the flexibility to move around. Get a pay raise once you move out of the grad program into a permanent position
Graduate, Adelaide - 15 Aug 2024
Do well at your job and tell your manager that you want to move up.
Graduate, Adelaide - 06 Aug 2024
I haven't thought about this much yet. So far I have only considered moving laterally across the business to find other data-science/AI related opportunities. Promotions seem to be based on a performance assessment process, where our ability to achieve self-set development goals and our ratings against a set of behaviours are rated out of five by our managers at the end of the year. If our performance is high enough, over some period of a few years, then we are more viable to receive a promotion, apparently.
Graduate, Melbourne - 05 Aug 2024
Hard to say at this point for promotions, but there is a very structured grade progression for graduates throughout and as they exit the program. BAE does support the 'squiggly career', in that if you start in one role or area, you aren't pigeonholed and you can go and explore other areas of the company in a different role.
