Would you like to make history in the world of cloud-based computing? Come and join the Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) Amazon Web Services (AWS) Business Development team.

AWS is one of Amazon's fastest-growing businesses, servicing millions of customers in more than 190 countries, reshaping the way Government Agencies, Enterprises and SMB consume information technology and powering the developers who are building the next generation of global industry leaders. AWS customers include some of the most innovative startups like Netflix, Xero, Canva and Atlassian as well as some of the largest global enterprises like Woodside, NAB, Hitachi, Sharp, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Samsung.

Are you obsessed with the business and technology needs of customers and love proactively helping accelerate their adoption of technology solutions? Do you enjoy building awareness and influencing thinking and direction?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a self-starter Industry Program Graduate to scale adoption and impact through industry messaging and solutions in the Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) business. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and execute an industry program for the ANZ business with an initial focus on the Public Sector.

This role is based in Wellington and starting from March 2022

As the ideal candidate, you will bring a passion for digital transformation, cloud computing services and the opportunity to shape industry-specific messaging, solutions and assets for the ANZ market segment. Your responsibilities will include developing a deep, fact-based understanding of industry adoption behaviours and translate this into impact at scale through industry assets and programs. You will have the ability to engage and interact strongly both internally and externally (customers, partners) to execute against these plans and activate new AWS partnerships and channels.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of the ANZ Business Development team, driving AWS awareness and strategic customer engagement across the ANZ business
  • Research and understand the industry-specific business and technology needs of AWS customers, including industry change drivers, technology trends, regulatory compliance requirements, etc.
  • Translate industry understanding into customer-facing and internally facing material to accelerate customer value, including AWS industry customer collateral, feedback and input to AWS service teams, solutions (e.g. digital innovation prototypes) and other assets (e.g. marketing campaigns, sales plays, etc).
  • Establish and curate the ANZ industry "knowledge library" for customer and partner impact, including:
    • Assemble and catalog local AWS industry assets, including customer references
    • Localise selected global AWS industry assets, e.g. making AWS generic industry sales plays relevant to Public Sector customers
    • Develop and package ANZ industry program learnings and assets for reuse across the AWS global business
  • Help build and manage the qualified industry opportunity pipeline(s) through programmatic pipeline management and prioritization
  • Deliver segment impact working with customers and key internal stakeholders (e.g. marketing, sales teams, channel teams, service teams etc.) on a range of in-market and internal enablement business development activities
  • Understand and exploit the use of salesforce.com (SFDC) and other internal Amazon systems to capture operational data and manage activities
  • Prepare and provide regular business reviews to the senior management team regarding progress made and roadblocks being faced
  • Handle a high volume of engagements and the fast pace of the cloud computing market segment

Amazon is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Basic Qualifications:

As a Brand Specialist Intern, there are two components to the intern program: your designated intern project and the Amazon Vendor Services (AVS) task list. The intern program is designed for you to have ownership by working on a specific problem project whilst giving you a taste of what it's like to be a working Brand Specialist (ie. vendor management, instock management, etc.).

Engaging customers, trying to identify their problems and connect them with the village of Amazonians that have the expertise to solve those problems. This means calling customers, hosting meetings, preparing experts with customer information for those meetings and collating compelling narratives around a problem or solution from our 1000's of customer references. It also means connecting with the Amazon Partner Network - learning about our partners, their offerings and other opportunities or relationships with our customers.

Pros and cons of working at Amazon AU

Pros

  • I enjoy the ownership of my intern project the most at Amazon... There's a large component of fulfilment I receive whenever I find pain points and strategise ways to solve them.

  • Everyone is super friendly and genuinely interested in the work I was doing. Everyone is happy to help and provide valuable feedback, insight, or advice.

  • The decom team is a very supportive and easy-going environment. We have laughs and talk about anything, but when work needs to be done, we collectively lock in and get the work done.

  • The work hours are really flexible. There is no formal logging of hours, and working from home is also an option.

  • The office is located in Town Hall, so it's super convenient... The working spaces are close to huge windows and have lots of plants. There are games rooms with virtual reality headsets, Nintendo Switches, and more.

Cons

    • Since Amazon is a big global company, it does take some time for requested data to be received, especially when dealing with different international time zones.

    • AVS is incredibly results-oriented, which has resulted in some churn over recent periods as people have been unable to deliver results in a way that would allow them to pass their probation period.

    • The interview process was very intense with three rounds, making it difficult but rewarding.

    • Like most jobs, I'd like higher pay but cannot complain.

    • Due to the size of the company and global time zones, responses to urgent queries may be delayed.
