Application Process & Interviews at Alcoa Australia

Online interview followed by psychometric testing and group assessment center.

The interview process consisted of a video interview, a psychometric test, and an assessment center day (team building activities, case study analysis, and speed interviews).

Simple and well organized

N/A - I became a graduate after being a vacation student. I wasn't interviewed or assessed for the vacation student position as I was a Bev Corless scholarship recipient.

Online video assessments and then in person group assessment, as well as various tests and simple online assessments along the way.

The interview process was fairly straightforward as I'd worked here as a vac student previously and it was more working out what site I was being assigned to rather than whether an offer was going to be made.

It may have changed since then but when I applied it was, 1. Application. 2. Online Video Interview. 3. Psychometric Testing. 3. Assessment Centre. 4. Onsite Interview. 5. Medical. 6. Offer / Contract.

I did an online assessment, recorded interview and group interview session for a vacation student role then was recruited as a graduate out of that experience with no additional assessment.

A lot about my professional goals and aspirations, there were some behavioural questions as well.

At the group interview general problem solving challenges were put to us to see how we approach problems and work together. For the online interview I was asked to talk about myself, which of Alcoa's values I most aligned with and what I enjoyed studying at uni.

The questions mostly revolved around teamwork, dealing with conflict, and working in a diverse environment. There was also a strong emphasis on technical understanding within your discipline and how they can be applied to the company's role.

Be confident, show your skills, communication is everything.

Think about your strengths and weaknesses and what makes you a good fit for a particular role that you're applying for - what makes you different or stand out from other candidates? Also just be yourself :)

Have a set approach to problem solving which you can adapt to different circumstances. Prepare to be working alongside others and remember to be respectful and kind during the group interview.

Be open and eager to have down-to-earth conversations with people. Ask curious questions and be yourself.

A handy advice would be to conduct extensive research about the company's history, work, and values. The information collected upon reading should be used in shaping responses to all (or most) of the questions asked.

Be prepared for it to be a long process.
